About Roy

Hi my name is Roy! I'm an aerospace engineer that works in the space program at a NASA center. My career has been focused on caring for spacecraft that are exploring our 2nd nearest planetary neighbor, Mars. Even though I've been working there over a decade, it still gives me chills to be able to say that I'm involved in exploring other planets. I love it!

At my place of work, I think I've done fairly well for myself, and I feel confident that my job is secure. This is important in today's very uncertain economy, where so many people are struggling with being laid off or having their wages curtailed.

With a steady source of income and regular work hours, I'm able to be at home with my family in the evening and on weekends. My friends will often ask me what I do for hobbies, and I usually joke with them that I don't have any -- I spend all my time with my family! With soccer and tennis and scouts and other church activities, our calendar is pretty full.

As a family, we love going to the beach, and I enjoy taking my children out on the ocean in our kayak. Angel and I do our best to plan several camping trips a year, almost always to a beach camping site, where the children and I also go bike riding down the coast. We love the beauty of the ocean, particularly at sunset, and feel blessed to live so near. Oh, and one of these days, I intend to learn to surf ...

As for other hobbies, I dabble in family history, writing, and astronomy. I love reading, particular "hard" science fiction novels, though lately I've been reading a lot of historical novels and autobiographies, too.

At church, I've recently been asked to work with the 12- and 13-year-old boys, which has been a lot of fun for me. I love scouting, and the monthly campouts are great. With my oldest son just recently joining that group, it will be yet another way for me to be a part of his life. It's awesome. In the past, I've served as a gospel doctrine teacher at church, as an executive secretary to our bishop, who leads our local congregation; and in several other teaching positions.

I'm very excited about the prospect of having another baby in our home. I'm very attached to my biological children, and I don't think it will be a challenge at all to love an adopted child. Children bring so much joy and happiness into our home, and I smile with wonder when I stumble over a toy car or find a pile of Legos scattered on the couch. Officially, I'm supposed to be angry and chide the children to clean up, but unofficially, I know that one day I'll look back and wonder where those wondrous days have gone.

Children really are remarkable, and I hope that any prospective mother would feel confident that we will provide a safe and loving environment for their child to grow.
