About Our Children

We interviewed each of the children and gave them a chance to tell a little bit about themselves.  What follows are their own words with only minimal editing, so you'll see some of their personality!

Nathan, in his own words, age 12

My name is Nathan. I am in 8th grade and I like math because I think it's cool. I like my school because they teach well and they make sure that no one is just goofing off. I like science because I like learning about planets and stars and I especially like to learn about black holes and wormholes.

My favorite color is blue (my little brother told me to say that).

I just got braces and they hurt!

I really like video games because I like to be able to go into another world and control what happens in there. My favorite video games are Homeworld, Starcraft, and Super Paper Mario on the Wii. I normally get to play about 3 days a week for about an hour, on average, because of my homework.

I also play the piano and the violin. I have been playing the piano for a few years. I used to have my Mom teach me, but now I'm getting lessons from someone else. I just recently have started learning to play the violin that my Dad somehow got on his mission.

I like computers a lot because I like modern technology.

My family is really big on the major holidays like Halloween and Christmas and Easter because we really like to decorate the house and we do it every year. I think that holidays are really fun because they have a great atmosphere. My most favorite holiday is Christmas because of all the happy spirit and all the gifts (giving and getting!), though I do like all the holidays -- Christmas is just my favorite.

I think that having another child in the family would be nice because I've always liked little children and I think they're fun. I would treat a new baby nicely. I would be able to accept the new baby, though at first it would be a little strange, but that's expected. Overall, I think adopting a new baby is a good idea because babies have a good spirit and it would be beneficial for the child to be in our home. Our family is strongly religious and we always try to do what's right, which would help the baby grow up in a healthy environment and it would learn right from wrong and everything in between.

Megan, in her own words, age 10

Hi! My name is Megan and I'm turning 10 soon. I don't really have a favorite color -- it's just the rainbow. I love nature and dolphins. I love to read in my free time and I love art.

My favorite subject in school is history, though I don't like to write much but I do it anyway because I'm supposed to. I'm home schooled by my Mom and I love it because I can go at my own pace and my Mom's a really good teacher. She home schooled my brother when he already knew the whole curriculum and the teachers at school weren't really focusing on him very much.

I like to play soccer.

I have a pet cat named Tiger Lily, but we call her Lily. She's a golden-brown cat.

I like to go to museums and aquariums. First of all, aquariums because I love animals; and museums because I love history.

I love to camp. I like to ride my bike around and play in the trees and I love the beach. I bodyboard and I want to learn to surf with my Dad. I love to go look around in the tide-pools. I like to make big pits in the sand so when the tide comes in it's filled up kind of like a bathtub. I also love to make little forts in the sand. One of the only animals I don't like are sharks.

You should choose our family [to place your child] because we don't ever say bad words or swear and we eat healthy and we save money so we won't ever have money problems. That sometimes frustrates me because I can't always buy the things I want.

We'll treat [your baby] like any good family would. We'll treat it as if they're a part of our family. I'm really excited to have a little brother or sister. I've wanted a little brother or sister for a long time, really, because I want to have the experience of being a big sister because I only have one little brother. I want to be able to learn to babysit and I love babies and younger kids because they are fun to play with.

I would love this baby as if it were truly from our family and I would help my Mom take care of it. I sure hope you choose us! Please, please, please!

Tyler, in his own words, age 6

Hi, my name is Tyler. I'm six years old. I was born in April. My favorite months of the year are April, Halloween, and Christmas.

I like cars the most. I know how engines work. I have a room that is basically a play room and basically the only thing in there is cars. I know that only a certain amount of people can fit in a car. For our car, it is a van and only eight people can be in there. There are eight seats. Our doors are automatic and our trunk; we have a sun-roof on our van.

I know what I want to be! I want to be a (you know those big trailers with the box and the two wheels and the engine with the six wheels) I want to be semi-truck driver and I want to carry an RV in the back.

I play the piano. I like playing the piano because my Mom teaches me.

I like to watch TV.

You know Legos, like Legoland? Well, we have two cupboards full and they're all full of Legos. I know how to make cars that actually look like cars. My brother, he only knows how to make this block thing with a fan. I made a Lego WALL-E once with my Dad.

My favorite colors are purple -- I know that's kind of odd -- and red and blue.

I am in first grade.

My house is a two-story house. I like that my Mom and Dad bought it and they let me use some things in it. We have a trampoline -- we used to have a playground. A trampoline is basically something you jump on and it makes you fly in the air and bounce.

You should choose our family [to place your child] because we already have five and we want six people in our family. Six or seven ... if you have twins. We have lots of baby stuff and we have not garage-saled it. We will love the baby and we love one another.

My brother, he has braces.

I'm going to love the baby like I love my Mom and Dad. I will treat the baby like it's one of my favorite toys. I will rock it to sleep. I will sing lullabyes. I will give the babies kisses on his forhead like my Mommy does to me.

Lily, in her own ... um, meows, age 1 (in human years)

Meow! [Translation: I'm a very well-behaved cat!]
